Osteochondritis, or, stiff ankle, is caused by lesions caused by injury to the ankle that cause pain and stiffness.

Symptoms include swelling and ankle pain, usually after a twisting-type injury occurs.

Treatment for osteochondritis is immobilization. If the problem does not resolve, surgery may be prescribed in order to remove loose fragments of cartilage and bone from the ankle joint.
